Parisian powder room interior with tile

Parisian powder-room tiles

Parisian powder rooms allow the boldest version of the look. A book-matched Calacatta or Statuario porcelain slab behind the vanity — single 1600×3200mm sheet with the veining running floor-to-ceiling — is the move that elevates a powder room from utility to set-piece. Frame with thin brass detail and a round antique mirror. Floor can echo with a herringbone marble-look mosaic, or contrast with a deep checkerboard for full Haussmann theatre.

Parisian powder room, questions

What does a book-matched marble slab cost?
A 1600×3200mm Calacatta-look porcelain slab is roughly $1,200–$1,800 supplied, plus specialist install (a porcelain-slab tiler, not a regular tradesperson). Real marble of the same scale is 3–5× that and requires sealing.
Is checkerboard powder-room flooring still in style?
Classic black-and-white checkerboard in matte porcelain is timeless and very Parisian. The 2026 update is to use warm bone instead of stark white, and deep charcoal instead of pure black — softer, less graphic, more period-correct.
Can a powder room handle real marble?
Yes — low-traffic, no shower, no hot water. Real marble in a powder room is one of the few places it's genuinely sensible. Re-seal annually and avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, citrus, some cosmetics) and it will outlast the renovation.
