Shower floor tiles.
The shower base has two jobs no other floor has: grip when wet and fall to the waste. Small-format mosaics do both — the grout lines add grip, and each tile sits flat while the slope happens at the joints.

Why small format
Grip is the whole point. A shower floor is wet, soapy and barefoot — the worst-case slip surface in the house. Small tiles pack far more grout line per square metre, and grout is what your foot actually grips. That is why mosaics, penny round and small hexagons dominate the shower base.
The fall to waste. Australian Standards require a 1:100 minimum fall to the drain. Small tiles handle it naturally — each tile sits flat while the slope happens at the joints. Large-format tiles fight the fall and usually need a linear drain at one edge instead.
No polished, ever. Every tile on this page is a non-glaze, slip-safe finish. Polished and glazed tiles are beautiful on a wall and dangerous on a shower floor — we keep them off this page on purpose.
Design & ordering
Contrast or continue. Two looks work: continue the wall tile onto the base in its mosaic version for a seamless wet room, or drop a contrasting mosaic to frame the shower as its own zone.
Waterproofing first. Tiles are the finish, not the waterproofing. The membrane and the fall are set before a single tile goes down — get those right and the mosaic just has to look good and grip.
Ordering. Measure the base area, add 10–15% for cuts around the drain and around the hob. Talk to a tile expert →
